We all want to be ‘do it yourself’ kind of guy but we aren’t all that skilled. We need to be self-aware enough to realize there are projects that aren’t safe to attempt without years of experience. Here are just a few of the major projects that you are going to want to spend the extra money on a professional for.

I suggest calling in the pros and whipping out the check book before you zap yourself with electrical work. I grew up learning electrics and I still call a pro. I am not certified to rewire a house and I don’t want to run the risk of doing anything wrong. Certified electricians come with the experience and knowledge necessary to rewire a house but they also come with insurance. Did you know that it’s illegal to do your own electrical work in some states?

Any time you are building something that needs to support human weight there are a couple rules to follow. All joints and anchor points need to support 10 times the weight you plan on having them need and if you don’t know what “Joints and anchor points” means then you need to call someone who does. I have heard horror stories of decks and in-wall full bunk beds collapsing too many times for me to mess around with that stuff.

Fire alarm systems and sprinkler systems should be handled by a pro. Most burglar systems can be installed by the home owner but any that come with a service require a technician. I suggest getting a pro for all of these. You won’t really be able to test their effectiveness and you don’t want to find out too late that they don’t work right.

To recap, you should call the pros for the following jobs. Electrical work, including rewiring the house and running new lines and pretty much anything else bigger than installing a light. Load bearing structures like in-wall bunk beds. If I hurt myself because of my shoddy work then I can laugh it off and move on. If a set of bunk beds were to collapse I couldn’t stand it. Safety systems like sprinklers and hardwired fire alarms. In my opinion it’s better to be safe and short a few bucks.

Redesigning a room on a strict budget is not an easy task, but for the majority of us, not doing this isn’t an option. But fortunately, there are cheap and creative ways of completely designing a bathroom that both looks professional, and is light on your wallet.

Artwork is important, and it’s possible to get it on the cheap. If you’re internet savvy, it’s possible to browse Deviant Art (most of the site is safe for work, despite the name) and find a great piece to be printed on canvas for only pennies on the dollar of the original artwork’s price. Etsy is also a very cool place where your transactions take place one-on-one with even more creative minds – it’s an incredible resource to find quality artwork.

Replace just your vanity cabinet! More than likely, there are retailers that have spare parts, and are willing to strike a great deal with you to just sell the bottom portion of a bathroom vanity (the cabinet a la carte). Including your city name into Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc will tell the search engine to try to return results that are only around that location – for example, entering “San Diego bath vanities” will return bathroom vanities in San Diego County. Find a local retailer that you trust, and give them a call to see if they have any spare bathroom cabinets. The answer is most likely yes (returns happen all of the time and these returns are not often sent out until their missing parts have been ordered).

A coat of paint is cheap, and has one of the largest impacts on a room’s mood. Cooler colors will yield a more serene atmosphere, while warmer colors will give the room youthful energy. For powder rooms or half bathrooms, a warmer color is recommended since that bathroom is meant for guests and a warm, inviting color will make them feel at home. Cooler colors are recommended for master bedroom bathrooms because your bathroom should be a serene place where you go to relax, or get ready for the day.

Those are just a few quick, cheap tips on how to redesign your bathroom. If you have any more suggestions, leave them in the comments below!

There are a lot of options when searching for outdoor furniture. When it comes right down to it, we want something that is long lasting, nature resistant, and looks good. For all these qualities and more, sling patio furniture and patio furniture sets make for a great investment. What exactly is sling furniture? It is characterized by having an aluminum tube frame with fabric strung (hence the name) from it. This material and construction has many benefits.

Aluminum outdoor furniture sets are very durable. Some people may mistakenly think that aluminum is flimsy because it is lightweight, but this is not so. Aluminum is a critical component in automobiles, aircraft, watercraft, and aerospace structures. Furthermore, the tube shape of the aluminum contributes to its structural strength by reducing susceptibility to bending and warping.

Aluminum patio furniture is also very resilient against the forces of nature. Aside from being structurally strong, it is chemically less likely to be damaged by common conditions like moisture. Metals rust when exposed to moisture over time. Aluminum is no exception, but this is not a cause for concern. When aluminum rusts, there is no discernable color difference and no weakening of the metal. Other metals, like iron, get discolored and weakened, but aluminum does not suffer from these problems. This means that if you leave it out in the rain, any rust that forms will not ruin the look or reliability of the furniture you were hoping to use for years. When the weather gets rough, why should you have to worry about outdoor furniture? You should be able to stay safely and comfortably inside.

The cherry on top of sling furniture is, however, the fact that it looks very modern and beautiful. By “modern,” I do not mean faddish or experimental. Sling furniture has the sort of simple style that conveys the sophistication of the “less is more” spirit. If you are interested in comparing other materials and styles to sling, then you should read through the buyers guide over at OutdoorSofa.com. They offer tons of informative advice on patio furniture.
